CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR

CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR made a proposal to the ICA in April 2010 to launch the project By Appointment, inviting unknown artists to suggest ideas for an exhibition at the ICA. We wanted to open up this opportunity to other artists as a way of bypassing the 'by invitation only' approach to exhibition programming and to raise questions regarding the value and kudos contemporary institutions offer artists.

Artists from across the country were invited to submit a proposal under 150 words, which was then exhibited on the day within fascimilies of the ICA Cafe and Bar Menu along side the originals.
